About Us - The Old Rose & Crown Hotel

Originally a coaching inn, the Old Rose and Crown Hotel is steeped in history and is a landmark building in the heart of the stunning Lickey Hills.  Set in the 400-acre park, the hotel is easily accessible from the M42 and M5 motorways - and just 9 miles from Birmingham City Centre.

Following a full refurbishment, the hotel now boasts 11 en-suite guest rooms, function rooms for civil weddings and wedding receptions for between 45 and 140 guests, conference facilities and a restaurant which is open for Sunday lunch.


ANDREW HODGES (General Manager)

Born and bred in Kings Norton, Birmingham, Andrew has happy memories of his grandad taking him to the Lickeys to feed the ducks and sledge down Beacon Hill.

Now married with three grown-up children, he jointly owns the hotel with wife Joanna. They took over in 2002 and oversaw a full refurbishment in 2009.

Andrew has spent his entire career in the hospitality industry, attending Birmingham College of Food as a school leaver. He has worked in 3* hotels and his career culminated in being Operations Director of a Canadian hotel chain at the tender age of 32!

Leading the team at the Old Rose and Crown Hotel, Andrew continues to make improvements to the customer experience and aims to be number 1 on TripAdvisor.


LAURA WRIGHT (Deputy Manager)

Growing up around the Lickey Hills, Laura enjoyed family days out and this continues now with her own family, as the proud mum of two boys.

Laura has an NVQ 2 and a Diploma in Hospitality and enjoys attending college and learning new methods and techniques in the industry. Laura thrives on continually pushing to drive up standards and improve the customer experience. She has worked at the hotel for 23 years so you can’t get much past her!

Outside of work Laura enjoys family time, saying it’s important to make every day spent with her boys count. They enjoy exercising together, bike riding, walking, boxing and doing Zumba in the park, as well as Scouts, where Laura is a leader.

ANN BORLAND (Event Co-ordinator)

Ann has lived by the Lickey Hills all her life and spent much of her childhood being her dad’s golf caddy! She and her husband now enjoy the hills with their 2 sons, hunting bears and playing at being Bear Grylls!

Ann enjoyed organising her own wedding so much that becoming an event co-ordinator was an obvious career choice. She loves helping brides achieve their dream wedding day, which, she says wouldn’t be possible without the fantastic team here at the hotel. Although there is a lot of hard work involved and months of organising, it is worth it in the end for the smiles of our couples and their guests – and the complete job satisfaction!

MANDI HOWELL (Banqueting Chef)

As Banqueting Chef here, Mandi is both diligent and committed to her profession. She joined the team here six years ago, having already served in the catering industry for 14 years in roles such as chef de partie and catering manager, among other chefing positions.

Mandi has always loved food and catering, and although the role can be challenging at times, she still thrives on serving customers and receiving positive feedback.
